Church in Conversation is built by Faithways Studio, Inc., a Colorado Public Benefit Corporation that exists to create safe spaces to explore faith and the story of Jesus. Our aspiration is to make this accessible to everyone, historically rigorous, and fully self-sustaining over time.
What It Actually Costs
Every conversation has a real cost, turn by turn — and multi-voice Table conversations increase that cost, since each additional voice generates its own response. That's not the whole picture, either: keeping this running also means hosting, storage, and the ongoing work of maintaining it — and as we grow, adding more Christian traditions and reaching more people, those costs grow with us. We've worked diligently to bring what we can down, so the door can stay open to as many people as possible. Keeping it that way is where we need your help.
What We're Doing About It
Bringing the cost down, while continuing to improve the quality. We're making the technology remember what it's already generated instead of paying to relearn it every few minutes, fixing places where it was doing more work than it needed to, and finding faster ways to answer the questions almost everyone asks first.
Creating less expensive features. The Atlas maps nearly 300 historical Christian movements across ten eras, from 70 CE to today — none of it carries the runtime cost above. Guided tours, where a Representative hosts a participant through a real moment from their world, are planned for later, after the interview, Atlas, and multi-voice conversation are up, running, and refined.
Building an Accessibility Fund. Access matters as much as rigor does. This fund covers the cost for participants who couldn't otherwise afford it, translation into other languages, and building out more worlds and features — all the ways this reaches more people.
Why It's Worth It
Most people only really know one or two Christian traditions. Many were trained to defend that one more than to explore the ones beyond it.
The Old Testament reveals Jesus through the whole of Israel's story — its worship, its psalms, its exile, its need for a rescuer. The story of the Church reveals him the same way, through two thousand years of traditions who each hold some part of what following him looks like.
Church in Conversation lets a participant research and meet any of those traditions in conversation, sourced directly from what it said and believed, with no pressure to convert to any of them.
